... I need honest opinions.

Left-right, or Right-left?

I'm drawing closer(lolpun?) to comicing. Or at least whatever attempt I finally have for it. Sort of finally have a starting plan. I just.. don't know which way I should lay it out. Left-right sounds more logical, because I'm not Japanese. However, in a way I feel more wanting to do right-left since I do want it to be slightly more manga-esque instead of just.. "comics"(because honestly whenever I think of Western comics, what comes to mind is either stuff like Garfield, or stuff like Marvel/DC.. which is just a whole different kind of nerd I really don't care for). Plus.. I am more used to that style now.

... But I'm also worried if I don't, I'm just gonna be accused of being Wapanese. But really, I feel like I'm just gonna be some kind of wannabe no matter what I do.

And before people ask, yes, I do want to get the thing published if I get enough people to like it. And yes, it will for the most part be a webcomic too... probably..

Left-Right. In English, that's how we naturally read. In Japanese, novels start from right-left so it's natural for them to start comics from that angle. IDK, depends on the language you're going to write it in.

W-well, it's gonna be English XD

And... yeah, that's pretty much how I look at it too. Although, I've seen other people try to make theirs look more manga-like by doing it right to left. I just don't know how good of an idea it really is.

So yeah, I really don't know *fails*

If it's in English, I find it confusing to have it left to right, unless it's a manga that's translated from Japanese I honestly see no point. You can make Japanese manga-styled comics in the western structure, making it left-right does not take away from the stylization of the comic.

Comics from Japan are left right-left when translated by most book companies because they're trying to retain the original intentions of the artist. You don't need to 'translate' anything, so I see no need to be right-left.

I think that's probably what I'm gonna do then...

Well, I'll see what other people have to say first.

But I do appreciate the feedback ♥

Yeah, it's up to you. Do whatever you think it's best and good luck on your comic!

I'm kind of biased, because I'm so used to Right-left by now I tend to read 'normal' stuff backwards.

But unless you're so used to the style it'd be hard to readjust, I'd say Left-right since it's, you know, English. Besides, like Angie said, manga style is more than reading layout.

When it comes down to it though, just do whichever you're more comfortable with. You can't please everyone, and honestly, I think which way it reads is an awfully minor thing to begin with. The story and the characters are what people should be focusing on, y'know?

Nah, I think I have it decided now. I have everything else pretty much figured out, it's just more like "Well gee, should I hop on the bandwagon with some of these other DA-comics or whatever and be 'cool', or should I just be technical?"... And technical just seems more... technical. So no trying to be better than everyone XD

Left to right was what I was leaning more towards doing anyway pet peeves and horrible habits aside, just wanted to hear what some others thought.

Whoa, caught me offguard there seeing my name, but I agree with you! It's totally up to her, I mean, she's the one drawing it. Grif should do whatever makes her happy~ Just get your story across, who cares in the end? XD

Well.. I'll have fun with it in any case, at least. Just knowing how to do is a different matter all together X3 and how many followers I get--..wait.. >>

I would actually say "both/either", which totally doesn't answer your question satisfactorily. XD; But personally, the way I see it is do it however the composition works best. If you're picturing everything leading from the right to the left, then do it right-to-left, because that's how it'll draw (er, other "draw") the eyes. Likewise, if it leads from left to right, then do it left to right.

Professional/commercial stuff in me say if it's in English, than go for the direction to match. Artsy manga loving otaku in me says that the other way is just as good, but admits than it may be awkward and confusing to people who won't nderstand why something originally in English isn't following the English direction of reading.

A part of me also thinks that going Right-to-left is a bit, well, trying too hard Wapanese/weeaboo, much like seeing new fankids going overboard on random Japanese exclamations of "wai wai kawaii neku suki desu" type stuff. It's fun at the time for those in the same mind frame, but after you grow up a bit and look back on such, you realize that it's really just kinda silly. It almost borders on the "omg, everything Japanese is BETTER! ALWAYS!" mentality I see with younger fans. (I'm actually proud of having grown out of thinking the words comics and cartoons are dirty insults to manga and anime. There's crappy and awesome from all parts of the world in those media.)

Back to the real point:
Good planning of frames and art can make any choice of direction work, so it's probably best to chose the direction least likely to alianate the greater number of potential readers.

I'm awful at giving advice on stuff like this...the only even remotely helpful thing I'm thinking is that if one particular style is easier for you you should use that?♥
