Yeah, I always seem to make that too short. But then it looks even more odd when trying to extend it. Pretty much anything after waist down or so, it's all over x-x
... This is probably my '2nd' try though, but then again first try every was really just a quick/stupid doodle. First real attempt at least!
Ahh, to me it seems like he has no crotch or waist area, just a chest and legs- I usually try to space my bodies with circles, although I'm not good at it myself. There's nothing wrong with using a reference here!
It's definitely not really one of my better ones, but oh well. One of my biggest issues is... well, nevermind, there's a lot. But anatomy and prospectives and all that = baaad D:
I generally use basic shapes and map out where things go later too. Though I also have a bad habit of making them either too big or too small than they should be.
Also doesn't help much either that I been fighting with a different picture I wanted to do all day but refused to come out right. I think it just fired my brain a little. And my art groove/mojo totally belly flopped in general by fighting with Sai for god knows how many hours the day before.

You're doing fine, don't think so hard about it. Just practice and look at references online in the meanwhile, stressing too much about the details will never get anything done, you know?
