Anime Review #2: Chrno Crusade
Nov. 12th, 2004 09:10 pmIt is also known as "Chrono" Crusade.. It still makes me wonder why the original spelling has only one "o" in it. Was it really just a typo that people accepted or was there another meaning to it... Nobody knows XP.
Chrno Crusade was a rather.. Unique anime... Had it's ups, had several downs.
First off, I was a little annoyed by the amount of Christianity in it >_<. But some of it goes away after awhile. But still, there was refrence to it all over the place. However, most of it was important. I'm not sure if I liked how they tied most of the "demon activity" into how it actually made the causes for World War I (and possibly II) or not. It did make the series a bit more interesting.. But again, I'm not the biggest fan with "parallel dimemsions/this is what could have cause *insert big historical event here*" sorts of things. Even though, well, supposibly all the christian obbessed believed the world would end soon, sign from god, yadda yadda.. silly ordered religion people, they make me laugh sometimes ^_^.
Ahem... *goes somewhat back on track*
Actually, from where CC stood at from the beginning, I didn't think this would be a series where almost 90% of the people die o.o (that should importance anyways). Yeah, that wasn't really expecting, especially at the ending. I still think Chrno should have atleast still lived. It still made no sense that when the timer/contract ended that both Rosette and Chrno would die. It didn't happened when the other contract was made with whatsherfacebecauseIforgetyetitwasanimportantname. Ok, so he would lived the rest of his life injured because he couldn't regenerate anymore. Still, something like that wouldn't kill you.. And then there's Satella.. I felt sorry for her at the end. I don't think she should have died either.. Especially since her sister finally reconised her.
Heh, Astral Line... Can we all say "Life Stream" XP? Seriously, I think they had that whole idea from FFVII. It even looked just like it.
Ah yes, Joshua.. However he didn't seem as kewl when the "noise" he kept complaining about was really Chrno trying to snap sense into him.. or something.. Because I thought at first it was refering that Joshua could read people's minds and if he didn't like what he heard they were turned into stone (that's pretty much what the flashback inferred anyway..). Still, Joshua remain a favorite of mine. For getting his head messed up and having Chrno's horns implanted on him (which cause even more mental chaos for him).. Ironicly I out of all the people who died, I imagined him dying first yet he was the very few that lived o.o.
I still don't understand the whole "Pandemonium's Head" thing.. Other than demons/devils didn't like being treated so lowly, they made a big battle of it, broke free and Aion tore off Pandemonium's Head..
I loved Aion's reasoning though on alot of things. Like the whole "if god is so prefect and wants everyone happy then why do people suffer so much?" idea. In which I think is a very true statement (mind you of my 75% athiestism). But Aion kinda annoyed me a little in some other ways.. But he made some rather truthful points.
Overall, CC was good. However I wasn't too grand of it from halfway through towards the end. Mostly because alot of it was Rosette getting her clothes ripped up to almost nothing.. alot.. which got disturbing because it happened kinda frequently. Comical beginning, tradgic ending, somewhat religious inbetween. I'd say it's worth seeing though
